Chess For Fun is the original seed from which Chess Nation has grown. It started as a small guerilla action in 2014 when Artur, Jarek and Przemek put a chess board in the street and invited others to play. From these humble beginnings, Chess For Fun has developed into a weekly get-together which is arguably one of the largest chess groups in Berlin.
As the name suggests, Chess For Fun is about the social rather than the competitive side of chess. Everyone is welcome and we care more about the general atmosphere than people’s ability on the chessboard. We’re especially proud of the fact that our members come from dozens of countries around the world. We might not be the strongest chess club in the city, but we’re certainly one of the most international.
